We have completed the first three phases of our project. The main results obtained are an Atlas of Zarate Delta and a draft of a development vision. Despite the bizarre times we live in, we are satisfied with the results. The main objective that drove the creation of the vision was to enhance the development of the island sector while, at the same time, protecting and strengthening the unique natural and cultural environment of the Zarate Delta.
The vision lies and succeeds through two pillars, the Footprint of Nature and Footprint of Work, and a “Smart Management”, which refers to a core which can coordinate the work between stakeholders and develop the instruments of these footprints. The Building with Nature methodology has proved to be successful. It has allowed us to structure our work efficiently and focus on the island sector. It has obliged us to think on how to deconstruct the force of nature and establish the first possibilities to transform this territory. The wetlands and the dyke zone constitute the core of these developments.
We have worked on these phases with an active collaboration of the Municipality of Zarate, the Zarate Society of Architects, Fundación Humedales/Wetlands International, and a lot of local stakeholders. In the next steps to follow we will design a Masterplan and define the first pilot, according to the methodology of Building with Nature.
